I recently re-read the Book Clear Thinking by Shane Parrish. One of the concepts Shane presented in the book was about Benefits of Writing down Thoughts and Decisions. As I reflected upon this I realized I have already been practicing this to a certain extent. Now that I read about the concept I now have more confidence about practicing this.

To give an example, some of the decisions that I write down

  1. Resolutions that I want to follow – I don’t wait for a new year to set a resolution but start following it as soon as I come across the idea. I also do write it down along with a ‘why’. Why I want to follow this resolution. It helps me stay on track when I don’t review and reflect upon it later
  2. Stocks that I buy – I don’t fully understand how the stock markets work but that doesn’t mean I should be left out. So I started making a note for stocks that I buy, what price point I bought them, fundamentals of the stocks and finally ‘why’ I think I should invest them. It has helped me make some decisions when the things didn’t turn out to be as I wanted them
  3. Major Decision Points – Something like buying a second house or upgrading a car. What are the pros and cons of it? Have I thought this through? Sometimes I run it by my spouse so she can evaluate it as well

All in all, I can say it does provide some great benefits if you write down your thoughts and decisions. Do you practice this in your journalling? Would you like to add anything to this? Do feel free to reach out. Thanks!
