Practicing journaling and self-reflection brings a level of awareness. This includes awareness of our good habits and those we want to cultivate. It can also make us aware of some of the bad habits we may have developed throughout our lives. For some, building a good habit is a challenge in itself, but I personally find it more challenging to break bad ones. An instilled behavior—a deeply set routine—is often repeated without our knowledge. As James Clear said, “The task of breaking a bad habit is like uprooting a powerful oak within us.”
That’s where the TED Talk by Judson Brewer helps us understand more about bad habits and a simple way to break them. When we start acknowledging and being curious about the routine, we can begin to address it in the right way.
I hope you find the TED Talk and the SketchNote useful.
